24 HOURS AFTER SURGERY UPDATE

Posted on Posted in Piper's Blog

I just wanted to write a quick post to update you all. Piper is still on continuous hemodialysis and is doing pretty well. She is still a bit puffy and in some pain but her blood work looks good and she’s being well taken care of. We are hoping that she starts eating some food soon so they don’t have to put in a feeding tube so we’ll keep our fingers crossed about that.

Yesterday Erin was kind enough to let me leave the hospital to go meet a few buddies for a beer and then go home to spend time with Harper and Sophia. I also got to watch Clemson get blown out by Georgia which was not fun at all. Erin came home around noon today and it is my turn to be with Piper for the rest of the day/night. She’s currently trying to nap but the discomfort makes it hard for her. Hopefully that will begin to subside as we get further away from surgery.

I have to say that sitting here with her in this dialysis room in the PICU is very calming and relaxing. There is not the hustle and bustle of the normal floors. It’s very quiet with just the air filtration system and numerous machines humming in the background. Two nurses are constantly in here with us working at portable workstations monitoring all of the equipment. They are very sweet and nice company to have even if we don’t talk much. I can’t imagine working in the pediatric intensive care unit. It takes a special person.

I will update this site as we learn more information. Thank you again for all of the prayers, thoughts and nice comments. It all means a lot to us that so many people care.

Love, Chris and Erin

  3. Hi
I’m praying for Piper and your entire family every day. I’m Pat Obstfeld’s niece and she as kept me informed of what has been going on with Piper. We share a common bond of infertility struggles. We just had our first baby in October via IVF. After going through so much to have a baby, and now this, my heart is heavy for you all. We will continue to pray and I’ll look forward to future updates.
