MO’ KIDNEYS, MO’ PROBLEMS

Posted on Posted in Piper's Blog

Our little Piper has been checked back into the hospital for a few more nights as the diarrhea continues to ravage her hydration efforts and her poor little backside.  They got a new IV put in today (after a lot of effort and frustration) and they’ve decided to insert a PICC line tomorrow so that they don’t have to stick her anymore.  Yes, it’s another surgery, but it will allow her to stay hydrated, allow access for blood work and allow her veins to heal.

Erin and Autumn were with her most of the day and I relieved Erin at 5:45 when I brought Harper and whole bunch of McDonalds goodness to the hospital.  Sophia had swim lessons so I couldn’t bring her.  Harper and Piper had fun sitting in Piper’s hospital crib eating French fries and chicken nuggets.  They got to play a bit and then Erin took Harper home and I’m staying with Piper.

Since she’s been on fluids all day, she looks much better and seems to feel better.  The diarrhea has definitely slowed down but it’s not gone yet.  Hopefully tomorrow or the next day.  I’ll tell ya…it’s a real bitch!

We feel fortunate to have Cathy McAdams and Dr. Chris Larosa looking after our little girl.  They really care about her and we’ve all sort of become family.  It’s nice having great people and great caregivers on your side.  We also feel fortunate that we made it through flu season without Piper getting sick.  Once we get past this, hopefully we’ll be in the clear for a while.  Piper deserves some normalcy and a normal routine.  Plus, her sisters get upset when she’s gone.

She really is the toughest of us.  I’ve said it before, but I can’t wait to see what kind of person she grows up to be.  She’s tough…but fair.

Harper is really growing fast and learning more words every day.  That girl, like Sophia, has a heart of pure gold.  She loves hugs and kisses and when she’s tired, she loves just laying with you.  Sophia is similar but a little more independent.  Sophia is such a good big sister and loves these little girls with all of her heart.  We are so blessed to have them!  (No, I’m not crying…I have a bug in my eye…LOOK AWAY!)

Love – Chris and Erin
