One year ago today Susan Piper Lee, the namesake and inspiration for this foundation, received the gift of life by way of a new kidney. The extremely talented surgeons, anesthesiologists, nephrologists and nurses all came together and took one of her daddy’s kidneys and carefully placed it in Piper’s tiny abdomen.
A year later, she is thriving. She has almost caught up to her twin sister in every conceivable way and is as spunky and funny as she ever was!
It all began when Dr. Raquel Tapia sent Piper’s blood to a laboratory in Bristol, England for genetic testing. The results of those tests gave us a diagnosis that would have otherwise been delayed months or even years and likely spared Piper from pediatric cancer and all that comes with that.
We are so grateful to A.I. duPont de Nemours Hospital for Children and their progressive and comprehensive care!
It is our hope and goal that we can help A.I. develop the technologies and facilities needed to offer genetic testing right here in Delaware so that all children can access this medical technology!
