HEMOGLOBIN LOOKS GOOD

Posted on Posted in Piper's Blog

Not to jinx it, but based on the dialysis session today, Piper’s hemoglobin looks good. They didn’t run a complete blood count but they have a tool with the dialysis machine that gives them a very good idea how her blood looks. Piper hasn’t had any more nose bleeds but she looks a little like she went 10 rounds against Tyson given that we haven’t really been able to get her face and nose totally cleaned off. We’ve been too frightened to touch her nose for fear the bleeding would start back up!

i also got a call today from the head nurse who is in charge of the post transplant ward at A.I.  She asked me all about my medical history and confirmed that I will be reporting to the hospital on Monday night before the surgery. I have to admit that it was the first time that I felt any nerves about this whole thing. It was an “ok…this is real” type of moment. I wouldn’t say I’m nervous, but it’s hard not to start thinking about the reality of having a kidney removed.  The vast majority of my concerns are centered on Piper’s acceptance of my kidney. This goes without saying, but I REALLY want this thing to work well for her!

I’m also starting to think more about the burden that is going to be on Erin over the next few months. She’s going to have some help, but it’s going to be tough on her. She’s such a strong person and I know she can handle it, but it feel guilty I will be of so little help with the kids and around the house.

I did get a nice visit from my firm’s legal administrator today who told me that I will not be asked to take short term disability at any time and I will receive full pay no matter what happens. It was a very nice piece of news to get as Erin will be taking some unpaid leave from her job. One less thing to worry about.

A full CBC will be performed on Monday along with our final tissue typing to ensure my status as a match. We will let you know how it goes.

Thank you all for the prayers. We can really feel them and they’re working. God is listening to all of you and we’re so thankful for that!

Love – Chris and Erin
