FEEDING TUBE IS OUT!

Posted on Posted in Piper's Blog

The good news is that we are done with the feeding tube for now. She has been able to gain enough weight that the doctors don’t think it is necessary any longer. If she can keep her weight up and continue gaining weight, we’ll be done with the tube for good. Life is so much easier without the tube. The best part might be that Piper isn’t soaking wet with pee every morning when we go in to get her. I won’t miss that annoying beeping sound when the machine clogs at 2:30 am either!

Other than that, things are going very well. Piper looks really good and is very happy and active. She is having a blast with her sisters and seems back to her pre Denys Drash self.  She is slowly losing the hair she accumulated while on minoxidil which is nice too!

We can’t complain at the moment so we feel very thankful. Piper is so good about taking her medications and we are really happy about that. Some patients have to keep a feeding tube in just to take all the meds, but Piper takes all of them orally and does so with a smile on her face.

Thanks for all the love and support. We truly appreciate everyone who takes the time to look at this blog!

  1. Hi Chris and Erin. So glad to hear such good news. Going to miss your blog ..for me it was like a novel ..with each entry a cliff hanger… But now ,such a happy ending.. ….so happy all is going well and still praying for continued success… God Bless, DT

  2. I am a friend of Carol and Tom Zix and have been following Piper’s journey for quite some time. I, too, am a kidney transplant recipient which led me to be very interested in Piper’s progress. I was transplanted at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore almost 4 years ago and am doing very well. My kidney came from a cadaver and am very blessed in that it evidently was a good match.
When I heard that Piper was receiving one of her daddy’s kidneys, I was so thrilled as it doesn’t get any better than that. My best wishes and blessings to all of you as I know how much you have been through. You are certainly an inspiration. Take care and enjoy that beautiful child.
