a quick thought

Posted on Posted in Piper's Blog

First I want to thank Chris for giving me so much credit for being strong. All of this got me thinking along with me and Chris talking.

What I realized was I really need to give my Mom credit here.

When I was a young girl going to AI duPont Hospital (same as Piper) for Scoliosis, my mom always gave me good things to think about.
When I first started going there as a patient it was still in the “old mansion” and as I was finishing my time there we were seen in the “new” building – now the “old” building. (time flies).

It didn’t matter which building we were in. Generally we would see at least one child with much more serious issues than I had. (I will never forget the 2 boys having wheelchair races down the hall.) My mom would always say to me, “look around, you need to know how fortunate you are. There are many kids that are much worse than you.” She was so right. I always understood what she was talking about. Most times this was said as a child in a wheelchair or on a gurney would go by.

I say this because after thinking about it, I realize it’s my mom who has given me the perception I now have with Piper. The same thing she told me – so many years ago – stands true today, things could be a lot worse.

We truly are blessed to have so many positives in a not so great situation. I see it every time I’m at the hospital. My prayers and my heart goes out to all those families I see. I am continuously astounded by the kids I see in dialysis. We are so fortunate that Chris can donate his kidney to Piper.

Of course we will have our own challenges but we will be on the upside of things being great. We are blessed to have the families and friends that we have. So much support that has come…and is coming… we are so appreciative. We are all looking forward to having family come stay with us!!

We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!! If by chance you are saying any prayers for Piper…Thank You! We ask that you please also pray for the other children in dialysis not as fortunate as Piper who may be waiting for a kidney donor, some who have been waiting for years.

We love you all! – Chris and Erin
